The Waverly Literary Festival is a weeklong celebration of the written word, bringing together students, families, authors, and the wider community to share a love of reading and storytelling. Held the week before Thanksgiving, the festival celebrates the power of books to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and connect us through stories.
Organized by the school in partnership with dedicated parent volunteers and Vroman’s Bookstore, a beloved local independent bookstore, the festival offers opportunities for students to discover new books, meet acclaimed authors, and explore the many ways stories come to life. Visiting local and nationally recognized authors share their work and creative processes, while Waverly students take center stage as published and aspiring authors, sharing their own writing and readings with the community.
Past guest authors and illustrators have included Dan Santat, Tao Nyeu, and Barney Saltzberg. The week culminates in Grandparents and Special Friends Day, bringing generations together to celebrate the joy of reading and the lasting connections built through literature.
A cherished Waverly tradition, the Literary Festival reflects the school's commitment to nurturing curious, resourceful, and confident learners—and to helping students discover the power of their own voices, both on the page and beyond.
