The Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009. This is an annual event perfect for all members of the Waverly community, for the youngsters and the young at heart. The Halloween Party takes place at the elementary campus. See the job listings below to find out how you can help and follow the instructions at the bottom of the page to sign up for tasks.


Project: Lend us your tables and chairs

Job Title: Lender of tables and/or chairs
Job Description: The Halloween Party committee saves a lot of money on table rental costs and creates a much nicer setting by using your tables and chairs. Label the underside of your plastic tables and chairs with your name.

Please follow our job site sign-up procedures to let us know if you have tables and/or chairs to loan to the Halloween Party. Include the following information:

Your name
Table Description (table shape and number of places)
Chairs (quantity)
Will deliver to elementary school yard (choose one):
Friday, October 23 (between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.)
Saturday, October 24 (between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.)
Sunday, October 25 (between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.)


Project: Buying Drinks & Party Supplies

Job Title: Drinks & Party Supplies Buyer
Job Description: Work with Eve to plan how many drinks, bags of ice, paper and plastic supplies will be needed for the party, then buy them. (Can either get a cash advance from WPO Treasurer or pay and get reimbursed.)

Date: To be planned before the party on October 25. Purchase and have items at Waverly by the deadline of 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2009.

Job Description: Hang black material from the ceiling of the elementary community room to make sections/areas for haunted house scenes. Job takes 1 to 2 hours depending on number of volunteers.

Job Title: Haunted House Scene Creator
Job Description: Create a scene for the Haunted House. Spaces around 8' X 8' are made in the e.s. community room by hanging black cloth from the ceiling grid. Scenes can range from traditional Halloween characters like Frankenstein and Dracula to spooky forests, ghostly hangings, to high concept art installations! Every year is unique as individual scene makers do their own thing.

We'll meet once to plan the order of scenes, design the dimension of the spaces (they can be square, zig-zag, rectangular, hallway-like, etc.) and designate the path the kids will walk.

Dates: Set up on Friday, October 23 (hanging black, start loading in; 6:00 p.m.-on), Saturday October 24, Sunday October 25; deadline 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Friends can do a scene together.

Job Title: Haunted House Character/Haunted House worker
Job Description: Be a character in a Haunted House scene. Past jobs have included mad scientist, experiment victim, Dracula, swamp creature, alien, witch, etc. The Haunted House Worker toils behind the scenes, making things move, etc.

Times: Half-hour shifts from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Job Description: One person at the front of the house and one person at the exit of the house, making sure kids go in an orderly fashion and don't sneak in throuth the exit. You can be in costume and make the job more fun!

Job Title: General Yard Decorators
Job Description: Help transform the e.s. yard for the Halloween Party. This includes decorating the climbing bars, covering the geodesic dome with material that we provide, putting up a Halloween Party sign, etc. You can use Waverly decorations and supplement with your own ideas. Halloween or white Christmas lights work well. Talk to Eve if you want more specific information.

Date: Saturday, October 24 & Sunday, October 25; deadline is 3:00 p.m. on Sunday
Times: Volunteers can coordinate with each other regarding when they want to work. You can divide up areas of the yard or all work together.

Project: Fortune Teller Tent

Job Description: Use bin of colorful fabrics and hang on the YK sun tent to create 3 separate areas for the fortune tellers. Put in two chairs and small table or other item in each area. Add lighting through small twinkle lights and/or battery powered light sources (borrow as needed).
